I qualified in medicine at the University of Melbourne (MBBS, 1995) and spent more than a decade working in hospital emergency departments across Australia before moving into general practice and earning my Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP, 2010).

In 2008 I founded Family Doctor with a single clinic and a deliberate model: keep practices doctor-owned and locally run, build the systems and support GPs shouldn’t have to build themselves, and let clinicians focus on patients. That model has grown to 112+ clinics across six states and territories, with around 1,000 doctors.

Growth has been hands-on. In 2024 we acquired 32 clinics. In 2022 we stepped in to keep around a dozen regional practices open after another provider collapsed — communities that would otherwise have lost their doctor. I’m still personally involved in the practices we bring into the group.

In March 2025, KKR provided a A$300 million financing facility — notably as private credit rather than equity, so Family Doctor remains 100% doctor-owned, with no external shareholders and no board. It’s the clearest proof yet that you can fund national-scale primary care without surrendering clinical control.

I completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course (MAICD, 2018), continue to practise as a GP, and write and speak on what it takes to grow healthcare the right way.
